Nivaji Ganesan - 82 birth anniversary celebrated news

The Kamaraj Arangam came to life on the 82nd birthday celebrations of the late thespian Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan on Friday evening.On this special day, a special cover with cancellation commemorating the late actor Jai Sankar was released by the Postmaster General, Chennai city circle, MS Ramanujam. The stamp was received by GK Vasan, union minister for Shipping.

This function is regularly held every year, conducted by the the Sivaji Prabhu Charities Trust by the late thespian’s sons, G Ramkumar and G Prabhu. On this occasion, four awardees from Kollywood received the Dr Sivaji Ganesan Memorial Awards which include a citation and a cheque of Rs 50,000/-

This year the awards were handed over to M Peethambaram, make-up artiste and producer, V Pandian, make-up artist, actor and father of director P Vasu, AL Raghavan, musician and actor and C Rajasulochana, actor and dancer.

The family of Jai Sankar consisting of his sons Vijaysankar and Sanjay were present to receive the stamped cover in the presence of the union minister. Those in the audience included fans of the late thespian along with actor Sakthi, SP Muthuraman, TP Gajendran, Pratap Pothen and Sathyajothi Thiagarajan amongst others.

Speaking on the occasion GK Vasan said, “I am both happy and honoured to be handing over the awards today. As a student I was an avid watcher and fan of Sivaji and I recall the days he used to frequent our home to meet my father. He has set a great example for all of us to follow with his achievements.”

VC Guhanathan, president FEFSI recalled the close association of Sivaji and the Congress party. Giving the vote of thanks G Prabhu recalled his father’s living presence amongst them in the form of the innumerable fans who were a constant support. He thanked Vasan for gracing the event and agreeing immediately to come.

The event was conducted in a formal but simple manner and the nostalgic moments were many when clippings from the thespian’s films were shown along with his relationship with the awardees and with Jai Sankar.
