Movie Bale Pandiya Director Siddharth Chandrasekhar Music Devan Ekambaram Cast Vishnu, Piaa, Gibran, Vivek

Debutant director Siddharth Chandrasekhar believes that having funny people and ridiculous situations is enough to get laughs.The trouble with Bale Pandiya is that the director just do not know whether to make a spoof or a comedy with songs and action, in the process he falls between two stools. The first half of the film is quite funny, but post interval it turns out to be another masala action movie which drags big time. The basic thread of the film has been taken from Dileep’s Malayalam comedy Kakkakum Poochakkumand borrowed scenes from various other films. Piaa keeping her mobile on, so that Vishnu can track her down (Taken), using classified newspaper ads to decode hidden messages (Beautiful Mind), villain Gibran looks and fights Vishnu exactly like T 1000 (Terminator-2) etc, etc. Pandiyan (Vishnu) is a “born unlucky guy”, whatever he does backfires and goes awry. He is a loser, and the incidents to illustrate it are funny and the best moments in the film. Getting into a trailer bus and it splitting into two, a ‘Nadi’ astrologer dying while writing his horoscope, the girl he falls for falling in love with his friend who is positively ugly are hilarious. So Pandiyan decides to commit suicide but every attempt fails. Finally he decides to hire a professional killer AKP (Amarendran) to bump him off! AKP works out a deal with him that he has to be a human bomb, and till that fateful day is given a credit card where he can buy things for Rs 25 lakhs. He meets Vaishnavi (Piaa), daughter of a politician Vannaiyar (Jayaprakash), who has hired AKP to bump off his arch rival Pasupathy (John Vijay). But out of the blue the bald Kachidam (Gibran) a cool killer turns the table and soon it becomes a free for all. At times you get the feeling it is like watching Tamil Padam- 2, as the film desperately tries to be a spoof. Vivek’s comedy track masquerading as social messages sticks out a like a sore thumb, and his toilet jokes are pathetic. Vishnu is promising, while Piaa is improving with every film and looks cute.Gibran is a bit of a letdown. It is better that Devan Ekambaram debuting as music director sticks to singing, though “Happy..” with all leading singers is an enjoyable music video within the film. On the whole Bale Pandiya is half baked and contrived.
